Today, PokerStars is the most popular and in-demand poker
room in the world. Hard to imagine that in 2013 he was a very modest share of
the market - just 15 %. Site took less than ten years to become a true monopoly.
According to an Internet resource PokerScout, PokerStars
owns 55 % of the total cache traffic and has an average of 20 200 players this week.
For comparison, the traffic of its nearest competitor, iPoker, ten times less. Apart
from the main PokerStars site has lots of local sites, which are also a large
pool of players.
Given the market share room that can be put on a par with
such giants of the modern economy, as Apple and Microsoft. The question arises
as PokerStars has managed to achieve so much in such a situation a short time?
Many see the reason to adopt a law UIGEA.
Until 2006, the main poker room in the U.S. was PartyPoker.
However, in 2006 the government passed a law States Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act (UIGEA), which prohibits online gambling. Consequently, poker
rooms were required to leave the U.S. market.
Unlike PartyPoker, which obeyed the new law and left the
market with the U.S., PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker have decided to continue
their activities. Thus, they have acquired all the customers left their main competitor.
Of course, it could not continue indefinitely, and April 15,
2011 the U.S. Justice Department with the assistance of the FBI blocked
PokerStars and three poker room, which also continued to accept residents of
the United States. This event has entered the history of poker called
"Black Friday.”
Undoubtedly, the "Black Friday" a very negative
impact on PokerStars, but managed to wake survive this crisis. And although the
consequences of those events still represent obstacles for PokerStars on the
way to reviving the market penetration of online gambling in the U.S., apparently,
the U.S. government could not long resist the onslaught of the giant. Needless
to say, that if the poker room will again provide their services to American citizens,
it will further strengthen its position.
